"My mom always makes this brownie recipe when I go home to visit her. My brother can eat a whole pan at one time if she'd let him! I inevitably hear from my sister every time she is making this recipe. She says she doesn't remember how much evaporated milk or butter to use, but I think we've just grown used to calling each other when we make this. It helps to keep us closer to each other since she lives so far away. I hope you enjoy making this for your family or friends," shares Kelly.
SkillScale: 3
1 box German chocolate cake mix
1 can evaporated milk
1/2 c butter
1 package of Kraft caramels (in the candy aisle)
1/3 bag chocolate chips
1/3 bag crushed walnuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine 1/3 c. evaporated milk with 1/2 c. melted butter and 1 box German chocolate cake mix to make brownie batter. Put 1/2 of this batter in a greased 9x12 inch pan, spread out evenly and bake for 6 minutes. While that is baking, combine 1/3 c. evaporated milk with 1 package of Kraft caramels. Melt and stir together in the microwave or stove top. Pour melted caramel over the baked brownie batter evenly, sprinkle with chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop remaining uncooked brownie batter on top of the caramel one spoonful at a time until all the batter is used. Bake for another 18-20 minutes and remove from oven. Let cool and cut to serve.
This is a great recipe to make and freeze for others or to keep for guests.
